Modern research is confirming the Vedic viewpoint that human life is meant for more than the pursuit of material

Imagine a farmer who gets a Mercedes Benz as a gift. The only vehicle he has ever seen is a tractor, and the only purpose he knows for any vehicle is plowing. So he hitches a yoke to his new Mercedes and starts driving it over his field. Of course, not only does his attempt at plowing fail; his new car malfunctions. He becomes totally frustrated—with himself, his car, and his field.

Ridiculous, we might say, that somebody would use a Mercedes to plow. But could this be the story of our life? The Vedic scriptures—and the scriptures of all the great religions of the world—say that human life is meant for achieving, not material enjoyment, but spiritual fulfillment. The Vedic scriptures further explain that the human body is a precious vehicle that the soul gets after transmigrating through 8.4 million species. In all subhuman bodies, the soul has access only to material pleasure, through fulfilling the bodily demands of eating, sleeping, mating, and defending. All material pleasure is troublesome to acquire. Even when acquired, it is unsatisfying because of the body’s limited capacity to enjoy. And even this paltry pleasure is inevitably curtailed by disease and old age, and terminated by death.

Only in the human body is the soul’s consciousness evolved enough to access a superior source of pleasure—love of God. The Vedic scriptures explain that love of God enables the soul to attain eternal happiness in the spiritual world, his original home. Achieving this love of God is the specific and exclusive purpose for which the soul should use the human body.

We can compare the subhuman bodies, which offer flickering bodily pleasures, to tractors meant for plowing a field. And we can compare the human body, which can offer the soul everlasting happiness, to a posh Mercedes meant for a smooth ride. Using the human body for sensual pleasures is not much different from using a car for plowing.

Because we see almost everyone around us pursuing material goals—sex, wealth, luxuries, prestige, power, fame—we assume such pursuits to be the natural purpose of life. But, as the saying goes, “Do not think you’re on the right road just because it’s well-worn.”

Let the Facts Speak

When we use a Mercedes to plow, three things result: a spoiled field, a wrecked car, and a frustrated driver. Analogously, let’s see what science has discovered about using the human body only for sensual pleasure. Specifically, what happens to the environment (the field), the human body (the car), and ourselves (the driver)?

The environment: Biologist E. O. Wilson, among many other scientists, has studied the complex interdependence among various species in the biosphere. He found that every species makes some contribution to the ecology of the planet. For example, if vegetation decreases, herbivores suffer, then carnivores. But he found that one species doesn’t contribute to the ecology—the human species. If the human species became extinct, there would hardly be any problems for any other species or for the ecology. In fact, human extinction would solve most ecological problems. The human species is arguably the most intelligent species on the planet. Normally the more intelligent the student, the more positive his contribution. Then why is it that, among all species, our human contribution to the ecology is not the most positive, but the most negative? Can it be that our contribution is meant to be at a level higher than the physical?

The human body: How do activities many consider enjoyable affect the human body? Smoking causes lung disease, drinking leads to liver diseases, eating non-vegetarian and junk food ruins digestion, and illicit sex—that perpetually over-hyped carnal pleasure—brings AIDS, an epidemic for which there is no aid. Modern society, education, and media indoctrinate us into believing that material enjoyment is the goal of life. But this “enjoyment” causes our worst suffering. Could it be that we are being tragically misled into abusing the human body for activities it is not designed for?

Ourselves: And what about the effect on ourselves? Scientists are still groping in the dark about who or what the self is. But one thing is for sure: the more modern society neglects or rejects spiritual growth, the more trouble the self gets into. This is evident from our spiraling mental health problems. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared that mental diseases—stress, depression, addiction, psychosomatic problems—will be the greatest health hazard of the current century. Worse still, WHO statistics show that over one million people commit suicide every year. That’s more than the total annual deaths from wars and crimes combined. And this figure is only the reported number of suicides.

Mental disease and suicide have many causes. But the common origin is frustration in achieving one’s goals, whatever they may be. When this frustration rises to an acute and hopeless degree, one feels one’s very existence to be an agony. And the ending of one’s existence appears to be the only solution. Why is it that we modern humans, the most “intelligent” among all species, are the only species whose members commit suicide in such alarmingly high numbers? WHO calls suicide as “a tragic social health problem” and states that there is no proven cure for it. Could it be that the goals society sets for us are incompatible with our selves and invite the frustration that leads to mental health problems and ultimately suicide?

See and Believe

How does channeling human energy for spiritual elevation affect ecology, human health, and the self? Lets see what science says.

Ecology: Most environmental problems have arisen from the materialism and consumerism that has accompanied the decline of spirituality and its inherent self-restraint. Therefore the following quote from Alan Durning of the World Watch Institute represents what many scientists consider to be the only hope for saving the environment: “In a fragile biosphere, the ultimate fate of humanity may depend on whether we can cultivate a deeper sense of self-restraint, founded on a widespread ethic of limiting consumption and finding non-material enrichment.” All forms of non-material enrichment—prayer, meditation, yoga, chanting the holy names—clearly point to a spiritual dimension to life. And this spiritual dimension is most comprehensively explained in the Vedic scriptures. In fact, the Vedanta-sutra begins with a clarion call: athato brahma jijnasa, “Now therefore [now that you have a human body], devote yourself to spiritual enquiry.” (Vedanta-sutra 1.1)

Human health: The current epidemic of indulgence-born diseases shows that universal scriptural injunctions for self-restraint—sobriety (no intoxication) and continence (no illicit sex), for example—are sound health advice too. Herbert Benson of the Harvard Medical School, citing extensive research on the physical and mental benefits of spiritual living, states that the human body and mind are “wired for God.” Not only that, a survey published in Reader’s Digest (January 2001) stated that believers in God live an average of eleven years more than nonbelievers.

The self: And what about the self? Science has come up with a precious finding: spirituality is a sure solace for the self. Survey after survey has shown that spiritual practices protect people from self-destructive behavior and habits. Patrick Glynn of George Washington University writes in his book God: The Evidence that surveys show that those who don’t attend spiritual prayer meetings are four times more prone to suicide than those who do so. Further, the giving up of such meetings has been found to be the best predictor of suicide, better even than unemployment. These findings indicate that spirituality provides inner joy, which frees people from the uncontrollable and insatiable craving for external pleasures that leads to addictions and suicides. Such findings have inspired some modern thinkers to echo the Vedic conclusion that spirituality is not just a part of our life; it is the essence of our life. Stephen Covey, well-known author of the Seven Habits series, aptly remarks, “We are not human beings on a spiritual journey. We are spiritual beings on a human journey.”

What Are We Waiting For?

Science is clearly showing that human life spent for material enjoyment is ecologically, physically, and spiritually disharmonious and disastrous. Science is also strongly indicating that when we strive for spiritual happiness, we benefit our planet and our body too. The Vedic scriptures offer us a balanced program of material regulation and spiritual growth for achieving the highest potential of human life. Bhagavad-gita (6.17) states that regulation in eating, sleeping, work, and recreation, coupled with spiritual practices, paves the way to freedom from all material miseries. The most potent and practical spiritual practice for the modern age is the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra. By chanting we can achieve a state of happiness that will fully satisfy us, and we will never be disturbed by any material upheaval. (Bhagavad-gita 6.22)

It’s time to stop using the Mercedes for plowing. It’s time to put our human vehicle into gear by chanting Hare Krishna. Then we can speed along the highway of devotional service, back to our long-lost home with Krishna.

Controlling Anger

Anger is one letter short of Danger

The Mahabharata says that, while ordinary arrows cut us once, the arrow of our words ‘burn the heart day and night.

Harbouring anger in the heart is another problem, as it consumes us with negative thoughts. Lord Buddha said that retaining anger is like ‘holding a live coal intending to throw it at someone else.”

Srila Prabhupada, The Founder Acharya of ISKCON said : Anger (krodha) is the product of lust (kama), the result of the mode of passion. Lust and anger are the all-devouring enemies that destroy the good qualities of the human being and the desire for spiritual realization. Anger is unavoidable in material life because the desire for sense gratification naturally leads to frustration. From anger, delusion arises which causes loss of intelligence. Devotees learn to control anger, realizing it is the foremost enemy on the path of developing our Krishna consciousness.

If i want to control my anger, this is impossible. There are so many courses and modules about anger management. Nothing fruitful. Because by courses & modules anger can not be controlled. It need practice.

As we came to know that anger is the result of the mode of passion, We can not control our anger until our life style based on mode of passion. We have to develop our standard of living from mode of passion to mode of goodness. Due to our mode of ignorance & mode of passion we never satisfied our senses. So when our senses are unsatisfied and get any hindrance then we become angry.

If a small child wants to get a toy and he couldn’t get it then he starts to cry in anger. So it never depend on age, sex and position.

How can we reach mode of goodness ?

Our mode is depends on our eating-sleeping habits. If we eat fresh, lively foods & go to deep sleep in the midnight & get up from bed before sunrise, then we can reduce our ignorance & passion. And by practicing these we can reach the quality of goodness. At that time automatically we never become angry. No need to control anger.

Lock down of Brain

We all are familiar with the term lock down. Isn’t it ?

Do you think are we already locked down ?

Definitely yes. We are locked down. Not due to covid-19 pandemic. From many many years. Years after year. We are forced to to think only about our family, nation and religion. We can’t think beyond that.

First fifteen years we think about our pleasure, next fifteen years we think about our carrier, next fifteen years about future and rest of life for maintaining family affairs. Don’t have any time to think beyond that. And then a transformation of body named death. Again forced to birth in a womb and same cycle we have to follow again and again. So have a look on this.

LOCK DOWN of Brain

Before many many years ago there was a king name Hiranya Kashipu, a demon. His son was Prahlad. Prahlad was just five years old. He started conversation with His friends and told that “My dear friends, if you can place your faith in my words, simply by that faith you can also understand transcendental knowledge, just like me, although you are small children.” So if you read this with faith that can open the lock of your brain.

5 years boy Prahlad told the real problem of life is the repetition of birth and death, which is like a wheel rolling repeatedly up and down. This wheel, however, completely stops when one is in touch with the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In other words, by the transcendental bliss realized from constant engagement in devotional service, one is completely liberated from material existence. All learned men know this. Therefore, my dear friends, O sons of the asuras, immediately begin meditating upon and worshiping the Supersoul within everyone’s heart.

One’s riches, beautiful wife and female friends, one’s sons and daughters, one’s residence, one’s domestic animals like cows, elephants and horses, one’s treasury, economic development and sense gratification — indeed, even the lifetime in which one can enjoy all these material opulences — are certainly temporary and flickering. Since the opportunity of human life is temporary, what benefit can these material opulences give to a sensible man who has understood himself to be eternal?

It is learned from Vedic literature that by performing great sacrifices one may elevate himself to the heavenly planets. However, although life on the heavenly planets is hundreds and thousands of times more comfortable than life on earth, the heavenly planets are not pure [nirmalam], or free from the taint of material existence. The heavenly planets are also temporary, and therefore they are not the goal of life. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, however, has never been seen or heard to possess inebriety. Consequently, for your own benefit and self-realization, you must worship the Lord with great devotion, as described in the revealed scriptures

A materialistic person, thinking himself very advanced in intelligence, continually acts for economic development. But again and again, as enunciated in the Vedas, he is frustrated by material activities, either in this life or in the next. Indeed, the results one obtains are inevitably the opposite of those one desires. A living entity desires comfort for his body and makes many plans for this purpose, but actually the body is the property of others. Indeed, the perishable body embraces the living entity and then leaves him aside.

All this paraphernalia is very near and dear as long as the body exists, but as soon as the body is destroyed, all things related to the body are also finished. Therefore, actually one has nothing to do with them, but because of ignorance one accepts them as valuable. Compared to the ocean of eternal happiness, they are most insignificant. What is the use of such insignificant relationships for the eternal living being?

So He concluded with that everyone, including his asura friends, the unintelligent women, śūdras and cowherd men, the birds, the lower animals and the sinful living entities, can revive his original, eternal spiritual life and exist forever simply by accepting the principles of bhakti-yoga.

Real Love

Difference between real love and material love

All the living entity expect love & express love. But no one is satisfied.

If you look the most ferocious animal, they also have a tendency to love each other. So that mean may be our behavior is so ferocious but we are bound by a loving relationship. Why we are not satisfied with loving someone and we can not be satisfied with love.

If we love something materialistic then our love can not be permanent. Generally when a boy looks a girl he bewilder by her beauty or vice versa. But this beauty is not permanent beauty. That’s why we are not satisfied with each other’s love.

There is no cheating in loving relationship

When animals love each other there is no chances of separation except death. But in our society separation is so common. This is the demotion of our culture.

There is no separation

We never see a separation between monkeys. But they are the first to enjoy sex life. So why there is lack of love in human civilization ?

We human are built to get a higher destination in life. But due to our animal like consciousness we fall in same category. The animals never stressed due to lack of love naturally. Because they are degraded living beings. They have no such higher consciousness like humans.
Suppose if i have 1 lakh rupee but i spend it in gambling that means i misuse my wealth. So I have to suffer for that. In the same way we have the human form. If we invest this life into the materialistic things then we have to suffer. If we are attracted to such temporary matters then suffering is sure. But if we are attracted by some eternal things then we can satisfy someone and also be satisfied in someone’s love. How is it possible ?

A wise person always love to the eternal soul

Some time when we see lovers they have such a nice relationship before marriage but they separate after few years of marriage. They stayed away when they were not married, they also had a good relationship. But after coming each other, problems arise. So when they are away their hearts are very close but as soon as they came close, the two hearts went far away. Because that is not real love. Real love is that if we love the eternal soul who is sitting inside the heart. If we love the super-soul who is eternal part and parcel of Lord then we try to satisfy that super-soul and automatically that body satisfied. This is the process of love.

This super-soul is living inside the heart of every living entity. So if we try to love this hidden person within the body of living being then we can satisfy other by loving relationship and we too can be satisfied by love.

There is always pain in material love

Finally if we try to satisfy the supreme personality of Godhead, then we automatically satisfied. Because He is the source of loving energy. He has full of love. If we want to taste the mango then we have to go to someone who has a lot of mangoes. Similarly if we want to get love then we have to go to someone who has a lot of love and He is the supreme Lord.

We search a better thing but in wrong place. That’s why we suffer.

Thank You

The Secret of Happiness

There are only thing people can’t buy that is happiness. Whole world is searching for it but there is no course or any techniques by which people make their life happy.

What do you think that what is the reason of it ? If we ask a person on death bed that is s/he happy ? Obviously the reply will be no. The common thing that we face is death and that is the most painful in life. Scriptures say we have to feel pain like 10 thousand scorpions bite during death. We are trying to enjoy this world knowing that everything is temporary.

Once Alfred Brush Ford the great grand son of Henry Ford came to meet Srila Prabhupada The founder of ISKCON. Srila Prabhupada asked him on his first meeting with Srila Prabhupada that where is his Grand father, great grand father ? Alfred Ford, he never saw Henry Ford. So he understood whole matter. Nothing is permanent in this world. If someone digest this philosophy nothing can give us pain.

Have you ever seen a happy beggar ?

Happiness comes within

Money can’t gives you happiness. It’s a state of mind. So if we know the mechanism of mind then we never feel sorrowfulness.

Bhagavad Gita says that One must deliver himself with the help of his mind, and not degrade himself. The mind is the friend of the conditioned soul, and his enemy as well. For him who has conquered the mind, the mind is the best of friends; but for one who has failed to do so, his mind will remain the greatest enemy. From wherever the mind wanders due to its flickering and unsteady nature, one must certainly withdraw it and bring it back under the control of the Self. It is undoubtedly very difficult to curb the restless mind, but it is possible by suitable practice and by detachment.

So to get a degree we have to practice 15 years, to be a good doctor, lawyer or an engineer we need several years of practice after completing our courses. So how can we achieve happiness without practice ? Only by practicing some rules & regulations we can achieve it. We should always keep it mind that every action we do the result comes back to us. So if we give pain or if i am the cause of some one’s suffering then i have to suffer in same way. There is no way to escape from the result of work. Now question comes in mind how should we practice and what to practice and how to be detached.

We should Do something and should avoid some thing. Lets discuss about it.

DO’s

There are six symptoms of love in the scripture.

  1. Offering gifts in charity,
  2. Accepting charitable gifts,
  3. Revealing one’s mind in confidence,
  4. Inquiring confidentially,
  5. Accepting food offered to The Lord &
  6. Offering the same to others

Dont’s

Human life is meant for simple living and high thinking. Our life will spoil if we become too engaged in the following six activities.

  1. Eating more than necessary or collecting more funds than required
  2. Over-endeavoring for mundane things that are very difficult to obtain
  3. Talking unnecessarily about mundane subject matters
  4. practicing the scriptural rules and regulations only for the sake of following them and not for the sake of spiritual advancement, or rejecting the rules and regulations of the scriptures and working independently or whimsically
  5. Associating with worldly-minded persons who are not interested in spirituality and
  6. Being greedy for mundane achievements.

If we follow these with love and exchange our love and gratitude with the elders, peers and the younger we will feel a change within. To know more about these six symptoms of love feel free to send me email or comment in my comment section.

Though we don’t have such training that how to become happy so we should set some parameter of life. Hopefully it will help you a lot.

Thank You.

GET RID OFF FROM DEPRESSION

Symbol of our life

This is for you …………..

If you take pills for your anxiety.

If you take pills for not having sleep.

If you think to suicide.

Generally we don’t find the root cause of problem in our life. Suppose if i have headache and just massage on head that is not the solution. The solution is that we have to find the cause of headache. In same way if we feel depressed, anxiety then if we find the root cause that will help us. I will describe here three steps. If you follow these continuously hopefully no need of any pills.

Step – I

To find the root cause of our depression just we need pause our life. Just pause for few moments. may be that moments is whole day or may be few hours. The cause may be in 3 category.

  1. Caused by our relatives 2. Caused by nature 3. Caused by our mind

Now after finding the category we have to think is there any hope for solution ? If there is any solution so that’s fine. Just do it and forget everything. If there is not any solution then apply the next step.

Step – II

Now in this step the solution is not on our hand. So what to do ?

Firstly practice breathing exercise. 24 hours x 7 days practice inhale & exhale slowly. Not very fast. Take deep breath and leave it very slow. If you can’t change anything then better concentrate on another thing. Whatever your daily routine do that but do this exercise until sleep from get up from bed.

Secondly find out 30 minutes in two slots, mean 1 hour daily for chanting the names. Whatever our belief is, whether we are Muslim, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and others we have different names of Supreme personality in different religion. Chant those names loudly so that you can hear your own chanting. If you want the best result you can comment your email id in comment section. I will contact you personally.

Thirdly We have to do more what we like very much. If I like music then I should listen music. If i like watching movie then watch movie. If i like to play any game then I should play that particular game. Almost we have to make a schedule in such a way that whole time engage in a busy schedule.

Step – III

Finally everything depends on The Supreme Lord. So fully surrender on Him. In my experience all the suicide attempts are from atheists. Any living entity never suffers due to lack of sleeping except human being. Study our spiritual scriptures remove our stress. It has empowered by Lord. If some time study these scriptures we get positive energy. But always study the old testament. Because in all religion the new testaments are compiled by faulty men. It is very tough to get right authority to get the new testament of holy scriptures.

So these are few steps to reduce our stress. To get practical more tips you can write me mail.
